WINDHAM NAACP JOINT  STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF PROP. 4: THE VERMONT CONSTITUTIONAL EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT

Dear Chair Lalonde and Members of the House Judiciary Committee,

I am attaching written testimony from the Rutland Area NAACP and the Windham County NAACP in support of Proposition 4, the Vermont Constitutional Equal Rights Amendment. We believe this amendment matters. Equality should not depend on the political moment, and communities who have experienced discrimination should not have to keep proving that their rights deserve protection. Putting equal protection in the Vermont Constitution is an important step toward making that commitment clear and lasting.

We respectfully urge the Committee to vote Proposition 4 out of committee and allow Vermonters the opportunity to decide this question at the ballot box.
